The Orion Mountaineering Club is a small, friendly club, based in the West of Scotland although we range far and wide on our travels and have members scattered across Scotland.

We meet every Thursday night in the Scotch Corner (formerly the Victoria Bar),Briggait,Glasgow from about 9pm onwards..This site gives a taster of what we do but if you fancy popping along of an evening just come down to the "Viccy Bar" and look for the bunch on the right as you come in the door or,weather permitting, the beer garden out the back.Or,alternatively, send the secretary an email.

STOP PRESS. The Scotch Corner is temporarily closed and we are ten yards round the corner in the Clutha Vaults. If you don`t see us in the bar then we are usually out back in the beer garden.Just ask the bar staff for directions.

It`s here we`ll plan the weekends trips and there are usually a few to choose from.We have a regular programme of weekend hut meets throughout the winter supplemented by day trips, informal weekend trips to bothies, camping and bivvying and the occassional bike trip. From April to October meets and day trips are usually organised on an ad hoc basis in the pub.

There are also trips abroad, again organised informally.Recent trips have included the Alps, the Dolomites,Corsica,Canada, the U.S.A.and Greenland.

For the main part our mountain activity revolves around hillwalking and rock and ice climbing. There are members out most weeks on the Munros,Corbetts and Grahams. As for rock climbing we span the grades from Moderates to E1.There are weekly meets during the summer evenings to the local crags such as Auchinstarry,Craigmore and Loudon Hill and there are usually a few folk at the Glasgow Climbing wall throughout the winter.

We don`t organise mini-buses or formal instruction, the emphasis is instead on companionship, informality and spontaneity amongst people with a common interest in the mountains and crags. The club is happy to welcome new members of all abilities and experience.

The Orion Mountaineering Club is a paid-up affiliate of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland and membership of the Club gives pretty much all the benefits of being an individual member of the M C of S (at a fraction of the cost) including getting the quarterly ‘Scottish Mountaineer’ magazine, civil liability insurance, voting on M C of S matters and reciprocal rights to hire other Club’s huts.
